Conference on Russia’s 1000 years on Mount Athos
Russia will be in the spotlight at a conference organized by the Friends of
Mount Athos at Madingley Hall, Cambridge, UK next year (3-5 February 2017).
For more than one thousand years there have been Russian monks on Mount
Athos in Greece. The first mention of a Russian monastery on Athos was in
1016 and this year has been marked by a series of events, on Athos and
elsewhere, to commemorate the millennium of this partnership. For more
details of the conference and how to register please see the Friends of Mount
Athos Website (www.athosfriends.org) or contact Graham Speake: 01295 721445
gr.speake@gmail.com.
Digitisation of AECA archives
The AECA has recently been working to digitise some of its archival material,
chiefly the journal which has gone through successive ‘rebrands’ over the years.
Those of you who have seen the new website (www.aeca.org.uk) may have
noticed that recent past editions of Koinonia are now made available there for
free download. In due course, we hope to make available material going back
over a century to the early years of the association and its predecessors, as an
important witness to the history and progress of ecumenism, and the role that
the AECA has played.
