throughout. The iconostasis at the cathedral is the most richly carved interior
element, and here vegetal tendrils interact with stylised pattern to create a
delicate texture contrasting with the light, bright, unornamented interior walls
(Figure 4). Assertive, even brashly insistent, in its architectural candour for a
generation of Georgian Orthodox Christians captivated by a recently emergent
relationship between faith and power, Holy Trinity in Tbilisi declares a kind of
strident triumph in its revival of a unique sacred architectural national style.
